Since I had Blue corralled in his chair with video camera in hand I decided to do a quick run down of his favorite sounds and animal noises. There are probably a good ten more he can do as well that I didn't get to in the video. Unfortunately, he was also eating crackers at the same time so hope you enjoy the mashed up goldfish bites.
He knows almost all his major body parts, can identify several articles of clothing, will "blow his nose" upon request, and will tell us when he is about to go poo. He is very comunicative, and even though most people wouldn't be able to understand what he is saying, he is a good little daily companion.

lick the SPOON
For a while now I have been letting Blue practice "stirring" and "taking a bite" after we have finished up a bowl of oatmeal or a cup of yogurt. He has clearly understood the concept and had the fine motor skills down for good month or more but he is such an unmotivated eater that I still hand fed him anything that required a spoon. I just want the boy to eat! But he was really interested in the spoon yesterday before I even sat him down in his seat so I decided to give it a shot and see how he did.
All in all I was pretty pleased. My greatest fear was not that he would make a huge mess but that he wouldn't end up actually getting anything down. But I think he ate about 80% of the cup. I love how he puts the spoon in his mouth upside down, like he is licking a popsicle (after reviewing the video, I realized that this development must have happened a little further along in our meal, sorry folks).
(Not only is Blue an unmotivated eater, but he is also a picky one. The excessive "mmmm-ing" is our seemingly futile attempt to communicate some sort of excitement and deliciousness around food. He thinks the sound effects are fun but I can't see that they help.)

riding in STYLE
Blue spent the night on Friday with Graham's parents down in Wimberely. On Saturday we got a text that Blue and Papa were hanging out in the truck, driving up and down the road at five miles an hour. Apparently Blue even got to steer for a bit!

Words can not really express how excited he gets around trucks. And to actually get to sit and drive in one... literally his whole body shakes with excitement.

we were FIRST
I don't know how many of you are aware of my secret celebrity news obsession, but... Have you seen this!!!
Beyonce and Jay-Z are taking a moment to bask in the joys of becoming new parents. “We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012.”
They stole our sweet Blue's name! It was funny reading all the comments from readers on their opinion of the name (mostly negative). I hope their low opinion of our collective choice keeps it out of the most popular name list.

yep, it's TRUE
Come July 1st we will have another project to report on here at the blog! As of today I am 15 weeks and a couple of days, or almost four months along. The two kiddos will be roughly 21 months apart but potentially only one grade level apart in school.
(This little widget will continuously update itself so check back in if you are curious about baby's progress)
For some reason, I am absolutely convinced it is a girl but this one will be a delivery surprise as well so who knows. I have felt really good this go around - very little nausea or tiredness to report. Now I am just hungry ALL THE TIME. Seriously, I can not eat enough to get full. I never felt that way with Blue. I would get full really quickly and had to eat my food so slowly. Anyway, you will most likely hear very little about this new little one until it actually arrives. Time is just moving so much faster this go-around.

a CLEVER one
We have a gate blocking the entrance to our kitchen but Blue has learned how to open the latch when it is unlocked. So he has been getting into the kitchen and rummaging around in the cabinets and drawers. The other day I opened our pot cabinet to find Blue had added one of his own pots to the array.
I had to poll all the adults who had been over to our house because I was so surprised he had made the connection. We had talked about his pots being pots. And he has seen me using the pots in the kitchen. But he had to go get his pot from his room and bring it all the way to the kitchen. Seems like a long train of thought for such a little person. Guess it just goes to show he has a lot going on in that head of his.

a BLUE christmas
Hope you all had a fun, family-filled Christmas! Ours was definitely Blue! We spent this year with the Burchfield family here in Austin. My grandparents and uncle were even able to join us.

All of the sudden, in the last few weeks, Blue has exploded in his enthusiasm over trucks. My uncle has a particularly awesome truck and my dad has a red one so Blue was constantly asking to go outside. We had a great time "mmmm-ing" over delicious food, hanging out in our PJs, and playing with all sorts of new toys. The highlights - lots of trucks, a baby doll, and a choo-choo train.
