the bumper JUMPER

More video!!! I'm sure no one is complaining.

We recently introduced the bumper jumper and it was an immediate hit. The toys are within easy reach and this boy has always loved standing upright. We really need to do more activities that work his upper body though, so I am on the search for a foam wedge. Hopefully this will make tummy time and learning to push his chest up a little more interesting. They are quite pricey when purchased new so I will spend the next few days scouring Craigslist. Fingers crossed.

i can't RESIST

So I was going to save this and post it in the next day or so but then I decided, why wait!

Here is Blue sitting in his Bumbo chair and proving that he can use his right hand. Even if he prefers his left.

SHORTS in january

I really just wanted to document his outfit and thought tummy time was a good a time as any. It's cute in a "just got back from a day at the golf course" kind of way... I have to confess that I also own a little girl's dress made from the same fabric as the shorts. It is hard to resist those $1 thrift store items.

our OTHER projects

Lest you think Blue is the only project we Davises have going on, here is a rundown of our weekend in pictures.

Lucy is getting old. She takes on new projects very selectively....

Graham and Edward got about halfway through hanging the siding on the shed down in Wimberely. Ashley and Jeb did all the framing over Christmas.

I bought these benches off of Craigslist a couple weeks ago thinking they would be a fun upholstery project. I had a bunch of nice linen hanging out in trash bags in the garage so all in all it will be a cheap project. I'll probably end up re-selling them on Craigslist.

On the docket for next weekend. Projects at home...Lucy needs a new bed and I'm itching to make her a swanky leather one.

breaking the SWADDLE

Since day one of Blue's life he has slept bound up in a tight swaddle. Unless of course he gets lucky and gets to cuddle into someone's chest instead. But the days of the swaddle can't go on forever and I think it might be time to at least start thinking about weaning him off. Sometimes he will fall asleep in my arms and I will transfer him to his crib, swaddle free, and he stays asleep. But he hasn't been able to fall asleep on his own without the wrap. I think part of it just might be the mental signal the swaddle sends his brain.

Swaddle = sleep.
Anyone have any tips?

you SPIN me

This toy was one of Blue's Christmas presents from my parents and he really seems to enjoy it. I could tell he was at the stage where he would benefit from an activity mat but I didn't want anything big and garish holding court in my living room. This one is great though. Wooden and compact, I can easily put it away when Blue is done with it. IKEA wins again!

happy THREE months

Yesterday was officially three months and we marked the occasion by moving Blue to his crib. He had been sleeping in a pen next to the bed but he no longer wakes up in the middle of the night so that close proximity wasn't necessary.

I was a little afraid he would have trouble falling asleep without us in the room with him. But for last night at least he did great. So I folded up his pen today and was happy to get my nightstand back.

weekend in WIMBERLEY

We went down to Wimberley this weekend with some friends. Blue did not get to go kayaking this trip but he did get to hang out with dad, watching the sunset from the porch.

Notice the bubbles in the pic above? I am really, really hoping they are not a sign that he is about to begin teething. In this aspect at least I wouldn't mind if he was a late bloomer.

new and IMPROVED

I am now the proud owner of a new camera lens. Special thanks to Ashley for her guidance and to the cool girl on Craigslist who sold it to me for cheap! I still have some learning and adjusting to do but I am already noticing a big difference in low lighting. Which I seem to find myself in quite a bit. I can now take a picture indoors at night that is in focus and not horribly orange. See for yourself...

Okay, maybe this one was taken mid-day but those tummy time pics were definitely taken at night.

head HELD high

Blue has finally come around to the idea of "tummy time". All babies are supposed to spend some time each day on their stomach to help them learn to hold their heads up. I guess it also prevents their little heads from getting flat in the back from too much time spent lying down. But for the first two months Blue really didn't enjoy it. He would plant his face into the ground and get real fussy. But thanks to dad's steady effort he has really come around. Now they have moved on to perfecting the roll...

a party TRICK

Blue has really started to discover his hands. Mostly this means that he tries to stick both fists in his mouth simultaneously. But he has also started occasionally reaching out for toys and closely inspecting each finger. I think he might be a lefty!

transporting the BABE

I forget now if our infamous vehicle fire ever made its way onto the blog. Either way, here is a pic to bring everyone up to speed...

As a result, we have been down to one car since late July. Which means I have gotten used to toting Blue around in our CRV. Well, yesterday I went to test drive an older, very basic Corolla and I could barely function without my keyless entry and power locks. To get Blue in and out of the car I had to individually open three doors and then go back around the car and manually lock each one when finished. The whole time I was paranoid about locking the guy's key in the car. And on top of that it took forever. Needless to say, we have added another feature to the requirements list. It is funny though that something so simple can make life so much easier!

i love HATS pt.II

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys...

We tried to go country dancing at the Broken Spoke with our families last week. As luck would have it, we picked the one night each week when the dance hall is closed. We were all done up in our country best so Blue got to try out another hat. I think it suits him pretty well...

HAPPY new year

The best thing that happened in 2010....

Lucy thinks so too. Although the comfy blanket ranked a pretty close second.

Happy New Year everyone!!!
