it was WILD

Our future across the street neighbors invited us to join in on their third annual family and friends camping trip to Enchanted Rock. There were about eight families in total - all with little kids - so you can imagine the craziness. I say that, but really, we were impressed. Everyone was relaxed and having fun and the kids mostly seemed to take care of themselves. It was definitely a nice entry-level camping experience for figuring out how to do it with kids. We stayed two nights and the second night was way easier than the first. It helped that we were all really tired!

We got to the camp around dinner time on Friday and set up our tent and met the other families (Blue told everyone his name was Bert). The next morning we set out to climb the rock (Enchanted Rock is a state park centered around a large granite uplift) with a bunch of other families but they left us in the dust. Blue is more of a meanderer than a hiker. He has stamina though. He made it all the way to the top without being carried! We had a snack at the top and Graham carried him a good bit of the way down. Which meant I carried everything else. We attempted a nap in the afternoon but after about an hour gave up and just let Blue run around. Wiley got hers in though. We had the smallest tent there (it was a wedding gift!) but we still managed to squeeze everyone in with room to spare for Lucy.

My mom let us borrow our old potty chair and Blue really enjoyed peeing al fresco. Peeing on the trees was also a big hit. As were the smores! All in all a successful trip. Graham is all charged up about going again sometime. Apparently, the family that camps together stays together... Something about hardships being a good bonding exercise.
