on the MOVE

Wiley is up on all fours and on the move... She finally abandoned her army crawl a week ago and has slowly been gaining more confidence. She has the exact same form as Blue did, with the right foot powering forward while the left knee gets dragged along. Now I actually have to keep track of where she is... On her first day of freedom she destroyed the play area. She was ready to explore.

WORDS are fun

Blue loves words and gets easily bored while eating. So we spend a good chunk of the last part of dinner looking at the books just behind his chair at the table. They are adult reading books so there are no pictures to look at. Instead, we talk about the book titles. He will ask "what's this one called?" and I will either tell him or ask him back. He has now memorized about two shelves worth of books. It is just about the cutest thing ever to hear him say "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet". It also warms my heart that he knows the entire Jane Austen repertoire.

a CHATTY one

Wiley had a sleepover at my parents house last weekend and she discovered a baby doll amongst the toys. She LOVES this thing! When you hand it to her she puts a death grip on it and shakes and smiles with excitement. They even taught her to say "baby". You may think I am joking so I have included proof. I wouldn't say she has mastered the word but she says it often and she knows what it means. I made the baby doll some clothes, since the poor thing was without and a replacement dress on Amazon cost $17.

A couple days later she learned "uh oh" and will now purposefully toss her bottle down and say it over and over until I give it back to her...

words in WHISPERS

Blue has a really funny habit of whispering to himself as he works on a task. The usual pattern is someone might ask him a question like, "Is that a T Rex?" and he will say out loud "It is a T Rex" (always a full sentence, never just yes) and then he will follow that up with a whisper to himself of "It is." When we were hiking Enchanted Rock during our camping weekend he whispered words of encouragement to himself all the way up!

a PINCER grip

Wiley has a good little pincer grip. She is the kind of kid who puts everything in her mouth so it is not hard to convince her to put food in there too. About the only thing I could ever get Blue to pick up and put in his mouth was puffs. Now when he sees Wiley eating them he begs for five minutes about eating some too. We tell him they are for babies. He would eat the whole canister in two seconds and still be hungry. But Wiley girl is a good little eater. Not voracious but interested for a time. She especially loves cheese, strawberries, and red meat! The only thing I can get her to eat off a spoon is yogurt. She really prefers to feed herself. Here we have her going at it...

what you MISSED

How delinquent am I? Very delinquent. My computer has just had too many demands on it this month. I needed a little break. Graham and I are planning a Kentucky Derby fundraiser for ECC (the non-profit Graham founded after college) and I have been doing pictures at my mom's two schools the last couple weeks. It is a fun thing, seeing the kids grow up and be more able to sit and smile at the camera. But each year brings more and more kids and so the job has really grown. My six year old computer can barely handle the load. Some big posts coming up though, so stay tuned!
