babies in BLUE

Happy Easter everyone! It's bluebonnet time! And this year I found our go-to spot - McKinney Falls State Park. It is about twenty minutes away and had lots of good safe spots. I love getting these pictures of Blue because they always fall right at his half-year mark. The birthdays mark the year and it is nice to have a reminder to document the halves. This year he was most excited about getting to hold Wiley in his lap. And Wiley is really coming into her own. She loves to laugh and chat and show you her tricks. But she is not going to be a push over. When she wants something you know it. And she is determined to get it.

the EGG hunt

Our now Second Annual Wimberley Easter Egg Hunt went down last weekend. It was surprisingly cold but pretty nonetheless. This year, in addition to Goldfish, Blue had cashews and M&Ms waiting in his eggs. It was about five eggs in before he hit a chocolate version and he was so excited! He could not get those treats in his mouth fast enough.

Like the hat and the gloves? We had failed to bring his "things" so this is as close as we could come to Bert's attire. Blue had risen before the sunrise that morning so he and SuSu had lots of time to practice eating like a little bird...

he SPIT out

There was some sort of stomach bug going around Blue's school and he was one of the victims. In the end, no one but Wiley was spared. It was the first time he has been throw-up sick and he didn't really know what was happening. My sister is a teacher at the school and caught him coughing funny and it seems he was trying to swallow it back down... Too much information? Poor guy. He really felt awful. He called it spitting out since he had no reference point for it. He had cleared his stomach by bedtime and slept fine through the night, right about when it hit me. Graham's version took a week to materialize. He did enjoy getting to watch The Jungle Book though.

iPhone vs. Nikon

These were the two photos I took with my official, non-iPhone camera during the camping trip. I am thankful for my phone in moments where I am hiking up a mountain carrying snacks and two complete outfit changes but there is something about the real deal... And Photoshop is nice too.

it was WILD

Our future across the street neighbors invited us to join in on their third annual family and friends camping trip to Enchanted Rock. There were about eight families in total - all with little kids - so you can imagine the craziness. I say that, but really, we were impressed. Everyone was relaxed and having fun and the kids mostly seemed to take care of themselves. It was definitely a nice entry-level camping experience for figuring out how to do it with kids. We stayed two nights and the second night was way easier than the first. It helped that we were all really tired!

We got to the camp around dinner time on Friday and set up our tent and met the other families (Blue told everyone his name was Bert). The next morning we set out to climb the rock (Enchanted Rock is a state park centered around a large granite uplift) with a bunch of other families but they left us in the dust. Blue is more of a meanderer than a hiker. He has stamina though. He made it all the way to the top without being carried! We had a snack at the top and Graham carried him a good bit of the way down. Which meant I carried everything else. We attempted a nap in the afternoon but after about an hour gave up and just let Blue run around. Wiley got hers in though. We had the smallest tent there (it was a wedding gift!) but we still managed to squeeze everyone in with room to spare for Lucy.

My mom let us borrow our old potty chair and Blue really enjoyed peeing al fresco. Peeing on the trees was also a big hit. As were the smores! All in all a successful trip. Graham is all charged up about going again sometime. Apparently, the family that camps together stays together... Something about hardships being a good bonding exercise.

he DID it

Will he appreciate this post when he is thirteen? Probably not. But maybe someday when he is a dad himself...

Spring Break for us has equaled potty training. When Blue is at school all morning and then napping all afternoon it is hard to get into any sort of rhythm. We had a sort of failed attempt back in January during the Christmas break and a real lack of interest in the weeks since. But I decided to go for it and this week has been amazing! No accidents. That is right folks. It's true. And today, for the first time Blue pooped in the potty... Three times! How did we do it, you ask? Chocolate. He gets a little piece each time he poops in the potty so he has been trying to push some out pretty much every chance he gets. He still wears pullups while he is sleeping and is a long way from keeping those dry but not having to change diapers all day is amazing. I love it. Way to go Blue!

PS - Little underwear bums are way cute.
